ABOUT DR. MICHAEL RIGBY, DO
Dr. Michael Rigby is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) who holds board certifications in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine. Osteopathic medical training is founded on a holistic approach to patient care rather than focusing treatment on an ailment or injury. Thorough additional intensive training on the musculoskeletal system (your muscles, bones, and joints) allows for a broader understanding of range of motion and what a muscle and bone feel like through touch. Osteopathic Manipulation Therapy (OMT), while similar to chiropractic “adjustments”, are a combination of techniques including gentle pressure, stretching, and resistance aligned to help restore range of motion, encourage overall health and optimize performance.
Dr. Rigby excelled in his undergraduate studies at Appalachian State University, achieving a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, with three supporting Minors in Psychology, Biology, and Chemistry. Continuing his scholastic journey, he graduated from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) in 2012. Dr. Rigby achieved his top choice as a Family Medicine Resident at Cone Health from 2012-2015. Cone Health Sports Medicine Fellowship (2016) allowed for additional extensive clinical hours with local high schools, collegiate athletic departments, and sports medicine rotations.
While practicing sports medicine for the past several years in the Greensboro area, Dr. Rigby has taken care of the complete range of patients, from elite athletes, as a sideline Physician, to the weekend warriors, as a Sports Medicine Physician. Whatever the population, he strives to empower patients to recover through empathy, education, and partnership.
